PROBIOTIC OMEGA 3 POPS
Ingredients
1 cup organic vanilla yoghurt
1.5 cup mixed frozen organic berries
¾ cup Good Belly (berry flavor)
3 Tbsp. omega 3 “Omega Swirl” fish oil (lemon zest flavor)
Instructions
In a food processor or “bullet” process the frozen berries and ¼ cup of the Good Belly until smoothie textured, stopping to scrape the sides with a rubber spatula if necessary. It’s ok to have some chunks of berries. Empty berry mixture into a bowl and add remaining ingredients. Stir all ingredients together and pour into Popsicle molds and place in freezer. When popsicles are frozen through, remove from mold by running under warm water for a few seconds to release Popsicle from mold. Enjoy!
Notes
*Probiotics, or intestinal micro flora, are extremely important for good digestion and optimal health. They support direct and systemic immune function, cool inflammation, fight infections, enhance nutrient absorption, ensure mucosal layer integrity, promote optimal bowel movement, protect against tooth decay, maintain bone density, regulate metabolism, aid in detoxification, and even protect against cancer. It is especially important for cesarean birthed children and children who did not breast feed to have probiotic foods in their diet to compensate for their lack of exposure to this “friendly” flora as babies. People who have suffered from infection and been treated with antibiotics should also be extra diligent to consume probiotic foods as the use of antibiotics sterilizes the body, killing off even the good bacteria in the gut. Most Americans have a deficiency of probiotics in their system because of over-prescribed antibiotics and the decrease in probiotic foods in the American diet. Probiotic (fermented) foods were more common when refrigeration was less or unavailable.
You cannot overdose on probiotics. If you consume too much your endocrine and urinary systems flush them out.
*Omega 3 fatty acids alleviate insulin resistance, protect against inflammation, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and help maintain healthy weight. They are essential for proper brain and eye development, possess antidepressant and nuero-protective properties, restore gray matter, and reverse age related cognitive decline like Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Omega 3s are especially important for children between birth and 5 years of age to support the healthy and rapid growth of the brain and eyes. Recently published research suggests that for children ages 7-9, who are underperforming in school, a diet rich in Omega 3s may support improvements in school, memory and behavior
